My paintings are inspired by the way natural light reveals the shape, colour and texture of each subject. My son, who got the physics degree I wanted but didn't get, described my work as "romance with reality." I'll go with that and qualify by saying that my work is as much about the role imagination plays in perception as it is about the careful scrutiny and depiction of "reality." We all conceive and construct what we think is real. It's the individual interpretation that makes realist painting so fascinating.
