17th Hole Blue Course Congressional Country Club by Linda Hartough. Bethesda, Maryland

The Congressional Country Club will always be known for its finish which presents a panorama as lovely and distinctive as any in the game. From the 17th tee, the eye follows a long swath of fairway downhill to a pair of distant greens rising out the blueness of a graceful sky. The first is the wide putting surface of the 17th green, set on a peninsula that makes for one of the most demanding approaches in golf. Behind it and on a high plateau is the green to the par-3 18th hole, backed by a majestic white stucco and red tiled Mediterranean-style clubhouse. Nowhere else in championship golf does the beauty and challenge of the final two holes so explicitly lie before the golfer.
